I took my samsung galaxy S26+ on the lake front again. Hopefully I didn’t take as many duplicates this time. I did attempt to take a couple RAW images that I will see if I can post at another time with some other filters/code I am working on. I tried to take 3 pictures per setup. I took an original (no filter), B&W filter, and a warm filter. I have it set to 24 megapixels and there is a setting that says take longer to take a photo if it means better focus. I did feel I was able to switch between filters quickly today.

There are still 2 problems I need to try and figure out. When I switch to pro mode I did take some images at 50 megapixels since this is the native megapixel of the sensor. This is why 24 megapixels is not in pro mode. Its not a real megapixel setting of the sensor. The 2nd problem is when you switch from pro mode 50 megapixels back to photo mode the megapixels stays at 50 megapixels. I wish it would remember 24 megapixels which but I get it why it defaults to 50 since that is the last setting in pro mode. I prob will just have to watch it.

I also wrote some python code that will filter by well “samsung photo filter names.” The exif data contains the filter name used somewhere in the there. Of course pictures without a filter do not have this property inside the exif data and makes it harder to account for when a photo is not taken with a filter. Hopefully now in the future I can post pictures to the site grouped by filter vs right now I haven’t posted many with filters. What is really nice is it a python script and it will organize all the photos based on filter name -> folder name.

The other program I worked on is taking RAW images and applying a filter on top of them. This way I could take 1 image and post apply the filter(s) I want. Unfortunately I think I am going to try both for a while and see how it goes. I like the idea of taking only 1 image in the field and post processing it but the phone should also be powerful enough to apply these filters. I also worry that 1 shot is blury and really can’t be used. I still delete about 1% of photos that come from the camera because they are just blury. Also the filters also don’t match from the samsung photo app to filters I have in the python module. The python module I’m using is called pilgram. I really like a filter called earlybird which looks to be a yellow filter + darkens the corners. I was shocked by how much detail comes out in the photos with this filter applied. I’m tempted to run my jpg original files through this filter and see how it goes.

I want to make sure I have a complete automated pipeline for all photos. As the storage requirements start to go up this will be even more important that is correct so I can get images to the website faster. I kinda also want 2 pipelines 1) for raw images 2) for jpg images. I found out on the samsung phone you can take RAW images at 24 megapixels in photo mode but not in pro mode. I then tried to process this “RAW” image with python and it turns out it isn’t a RAW image really. It is just a jpg image wrapped around some image wrapper to look like a RAW image. My python code fails to be able to convert this image while all images coming from PRO mode work fine at 12 and 50 megapixels.
